DUNSEITH, ND — The Dunseith Esports teams have made an impressive mark this season, punching their tickets to the state tournament and doubling the number of students qualifying for the event compared to last year. This year, 20 talented students will represent Dunseith at the state tournament, which will take place on March 28th and 29th at the Esports Facility at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

Over the past 10 weeks, the students have worked tirelessly, crafting innovative strategies to compete against some of the best teams in the state. Their commitment during both the preseason and regular season has paid off, with a number of teams securing spots at the highly anticipated tournament.

Among the standout teams are the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitors, with Taelor Peltier, Landen Trottier, and Kayl Short all qualifying for state. In Mario Kart, the team of Taelor Peltier and Landen Trottier went undefeated, while Team 2, consisting of Noah Peltier and Allan Allery, finished with an impressive 7-1 record.

This year also saw Dunseith’s debut in Rocket League, and the team has already made a strong impact. After facing several tough opponents, they secured the 5th seed heading into the state tournament. The Rocket League team includes Connor Cree, Francis Belgarde, LJ Counts, and Mike Marion.

In Chess, Lee Davis made an incredible debut season, battling through a tough schedule to finish with a 5-3 record and a spot in the state tournament.

The Valorant teams also had a strong showing, with enough students to field two squads this year. Team 1 features Austin Gladue, Hunter Tandeski, Taelor Peltier, Kayl Short, Mason Nadeau, and sub Jaxson Gladue. Team 2 includes Mike Marion, Blaize Crum, Amiah Fleming, Alex Bercier, Gavin Demery, and sub Liam Azure.

Though the Fortnite team had some changes this season, they are still contenders, despite a shift in gameplay and some key graduates from last year’s state championship squad. This year, the team is led by returning state champion Anthony Thiefoe, with LJ Counts joining him on the roster.

While many students have earned their place in the state tournament, others, despite their hard work and perseverance, fell just short of qualifying. These students demonstrated resilience, adapting to challenges throughout the season and coming close to securing a spot in the state tournament.

It’s been an incredible journey for our Esports program. We’re so proud of all our students for their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship. They’ve all shown tremendous growth this season, and we can’t wait to see what they do at state.

The state tournament will be covered live by Fenworks on their YouTube channel, and updates will be available on their website. Links to the live coverage and further tournament information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to all the Dunseith Esports students for their hard work and accomplishments this season. Best of luck at the state tournament — bring home the trophy!
